Man City vs Everton - 5 Reasons Why Toffee's Undefeated Streak Is About To End

5. The Bayern Result

The 3-1 defeat I mentioned in the introduction will have really hurt Man City. They were at home in front of a large crowd wanting to see a brighter start in Europe's biggest contest then they have previously in the 12/13 season. Poor results against European opposition would have been one of the reasons that saw Roberto Mancini vacate his job and his successor Pellegrini would have hoped for more from his exotic and expensive line-up. It is often said that 'lower' teams often fear those who have just had a beating in the fixture before and whilst I by no means consider Everton a 'low' team or one that shouldn't be vying for a top 6 spot, they will still have the same concerns had this been Sunderland or Crystal Palace instead making the Etihad trip. Pellegrini will find few positives to take out of the Bayern game and the players will be left in no doubt that they must improve in order to have a realistic hope of going further in the competition. The players who let City down mid-week will have looked at their performance and analysed it, seeing the mistakes in their game and will be itching to set the record straight and also deal high flying Everton a reality check. Pride will make the players want to prove a point in front of their home crowd again and also sound out a message to the rest of Group D that they will not roll over the next time they meet.
