Balotelli was contesting a loose ball with left-back Goran Popov, but followed through with his studs into the chest of the Macedonian international before raking his studs down his thigh, leaving Cakir little choice but to hand the fiery Italian the second red card of his career, later prompting manager Roberto Mancini to brand the player "stupid" in the wake of the incident. Though Cakir was correct in sending off Balotelli, he made some strange decisions throughout the game.
