Man Utd: Ranking Premier League Goalkeepers From Worst To Best

8. Ricardo

Ricardo López Felipe, known simply as 'Ricardo', was another of Ferguson's flops in the long and unfruitful search for Peter Schmeichel's replacement in the early 2000's. Ricardo arrived at United in 2002 from Valladolid and was brought in by Ferguson as cover for the then-injured Fabien Barthez and Roy Carroll, who lacked experience. On his debut against Blackburn Rovers, his first action was to concede a penalty after uprooting Andy Cole, though he did save David Dunn's resulting spot-kick. Things rarely got better though and Ricardo appeared in only four Champions League matches and once in the Premier League for the Red Devils during his three-year spell. The stopper was loaned to Racing Santander for a season between 2003-04 but his days were numbered when United signed Tim Howard and Carroll saw a return to form. Ricardo was released from his contract at the Theatre of Dreams and wound up at Osasuna in 2005, where he ended his career last year.
