3. Robert Lewandowski
The Polish international is one of the most coveted players on this summer's transfer market following a remarkable season at Borussia Dortmund in which he netted 24 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances as well as a further 10 in the Champions League, a competition of which he helped fire the German outfit to the final of. As well as United, the 24-year old has also been strongly linked with a move to Bayern Munich, who are long-term admirers, and the two heavyweights were set to scrap it out for the striker's signature this summer. However, Dortmund's chief executive Aki Watzke has
ruled out a sale to either club, saying:
What I expect from him now is to show the strength in character he has shown over the past years and cope with the situation on a professional level. I am confident that he will do so. 2014, when his contract runs out, he is welcome to join Munich."
But are Dortmund really prepared to cut off their own nose just to spite their face? They could rake in £20 million for the star by selling him to United this summer - who would clearly have to fend off strong interest from Bayern first - while if they forced the striker into seeing out the remaining 12 months of his deal, would not only have an unhappy player in the dressing room, but would also lose him for absolutely nothing, and that's not good business. Watzke's comments then should likely be taken with a pinch of salt - Lewandowski's move to Old Trafford is still very much a possibility despite his claims to the contrary.
