Man Utd Transfers: 5 Reasons David Moyes Must Be Careful If He Wants To Rebuild His Squad
5. New Managers Need Experienced Players Around Them When Things Aren't Going Well
Obviously, Vidic is an experienced player that Moyes will be without next season. However, it seems likely that he will not be the only player of a certain age to leave with speculation going around that Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra are also likely to be dispensed of. Manchester Uniteds policy of only offering one-year contracts to players over 30 was recently criticised on Sky Sports Sunday Supplement program. The suggestion was made that instead of having a blanket rule; they should instead review the situation based on each individual player. One of Sir Alex Fergusons great strengths was his ability to extend the careers of so many top players. In my opinion, it would a big mistake from Moyes if he goes against that policy and looks to work with an exclusively young squad. Of course, its difficult to predict what sort of season Man Utd are likely to have next season at this point, but its more than likely that not all the problems from this season will be instantly solved. Therefore, it will benefit the manager to have players that have experienced success with the club and have the sort of presence that can help to get the best out of the younger players. Those big characters like Evra and Ferdinand will be the sort of individuals that Moyes will need around him, especially if results start to go against him.
