Man Utd vs West Brom: 5 Reasons Why Red Devils HAVE To Win
2. United Haven't Lost At Home To West Brom Since 1978
Tony 'Bomber' Brown scored a brace for West Brom in 1978 to defeat Man Utd and record a rare victory in the league. Rare as West Brom have not recorded a win in the league since then, not in 35 long years, so going into this match-up people will hardly be expecting an upset.. You can find these sort of stats all over the footballing world and generally they are of little use but at least this one does point to the sheer dominance United have held over West Brom and I doubt very much that they will want to relinquish bragging rights anytime soon. As I have touched upon earlier the United brand isn't just a name, it is a feeling and aura that 'We WILL win this match'. I used to hate watching the Arsenal v United games during the phase when we couldn't beat them regardless of who we fielded and subjugating rival fans with that feeling of despair is what United do so well. It is important that this feeling or reputation isn't damaged in any way during the first year of Moyes being in charge. Just look at Chelsea under Mourinho the first time and they were a force to be reckoned with and few managers came out of the mind game battle intact, Chelsea were simply very very good. This year Mourinho is back and with a similar quality team that he had before, unfortunately all his hard work has been thrown by the way side in the merry-go-round of managers they have had since him and the re-building of that psyche is now underway. Moyes does not have the luxury of losing against teams they 'should' be beating due to his already poor start and if teams can look at his United team and see that lower ranked teams have had their wicked way United will soon lose that 'fear factor' that has started them on the front foot in so many matches.
