7. Rio Ferdinand
Chris Ison/PA Wire/Press Association ImagesRio Ferdinand has had to endure a love-hate relationship with fans over the years, with Chelsea supporters showing him considerable disdain. Ferdinand drew the ire of Chelsea fans in 2012 when he spoke out and
called Blues captain John Terry a racist after an incident with his brother, Anton. Terry was banned for four matches for racially abusing the younger Ferdinand and both have been hate figures in west London ever since. Ferdinand has been embroiled in
a series of other off-field controversies that has seen his reputation among certain fan bases dwindle. In 1997 he was given a 12 month driving ban for driving under the influence while he was also involved in a sex tape scandal. After leaving Leeds for their hated rivals United in 2002, Ferdinand burned yet more bridges, and in 2004 he was banned for eight months for failing a drugs test. There has been no love lost between Ferdinand and football fans down the years, and the now-retired defender will always be remembered as being a divisive character.
