Movember: 12 Greatest Moustaches In Newcastle United History

Move over Joey Barton, these are proper 'taches.

Footballers and moustaches go together like footballers and ridiculous hair-styles, so inevitably when Movember comes around every November there are rich pickings to run-down the best, the worst and the downright most outrageous of what professionals have attempted to grow on their lips. Perhaps it's because we're a club with working class history, or maybe it's because the region gets so very chilly at the height of winter, but Newcastle's stock of moustachioed heroes is significantly richer than other decidedly less macho clubs around the country. We have seen everything from the handle-bar through the Ned Flanders to the Scouse Special throughout the history of football, and with Movember now in full flow and lips all over Tyneside beginning to proudly sprout itchy tufts of ginger, it's the perfect time to look back through the greatest and most memorable... Honourable Mention

Joey Barton

We know Joey tried hard to grow something, and since it was for charity, there's not a lot you can say about the distinctly raggy tache he managed to foster on his upper lip, but it's hardly a Neville Southall. Dishonourable Mentions Thankfully, neither of these were grown while in Newcastle colours...

Michael Bridges

Inventive, but ridiculous.

Jose Enrique

What possesses any man in 2014 to go for the Hitler motif? Error. So, now on to the most majestic moustaches in Newcastle United history...
