Newcastle 0-2 Man City: 5 Key Things We Learned

5. Jovetic Sets Tone Of Injury Woe

Montenego international forward Jovetic is having lousy luck at Manchester City with injuries. The summer arrival from Fioretina limped out of this cup tie after less than ten minutes with a calf problem. Pellegrini purchased Jovetic as a big summer signing and, a brace in the last round of this competition aside, yet he has struggled to make any sort of impact. With Sergio Aguero rested City threw on Negredo to give themselves a twin towers threat in attack alongside Dzeko. City right back Micah Richards was another casualty. Involved in several collisions before going down with cramp 80 minutes, Pellegrini withdrew him in favour of Pablo Zabaleta. The nobbling didn't just strike down the visitors either... Newcastle also had injury problems of their own with young French left back Massadio Haidara being withdrawn at half time with a hamstring problem. Academy product Paul Dummett, who has had recent first-team exposure, replaced him in the home defence. Dummett himself also had to be subbed with what looked to be a similar injury before the end of the regulation 90 minutes. He was seen holding the back of his thigh as Hatem Ben Arfa had to be thrown on by the hosts.
