Newcastle 3-4 Portland Timbers 2 – NUFC Match Ratings
9. Moussa Sissoko (Replaced By Gabriel Obertan) - 4.5/10
Another frustrating showing from Newcastle's No 7 as a host of chances he both created and had were squandered. There was one unmarked air shot that he pulled off in the second-half which defied belief. However, it was a typically hard-working display from Moussa which once again proved that he is going to be integral to everything Steve McClaren's Newcastle do next season. We hope that it's that fact we're barely three weeks into pre-season that is causing the Frenchman's wastefulness. At least he's having an affect on every game and getting into dangerous positions, right? We'd prefer him doing something than nothing, which we saw all too often from him last term.
Gabriel Obertan - 5.5/10
Arguably United's second brightest player in the second-half behind Rolando Aarons, Gabriel Obertan took up a more central role on a number of occasions which caused Portland a fair few problems. However, he ultimately failed to offer so much that United profited from a goal he either made or scored so we can't score him too highly. It was more of a case that he performed a tad better than Newcastle's other midfielders on the night, which as you will have gathered by now, wasn't too difficult.
