1. The Premier League Always Comes First
The financial rewards of the Premier league have never been greater. And come next season the clubs at the bottom of the table could generate as much income from TV deals as Manchester United received for winning the title this year. United received around
£60 million this term, which could rise to as much as £100m next season. The new deal which takes effect next season is causing huge ripples within the Championship, affectively widening the gap between the leagues. Which some Chairmen believe is unbridgeable. This will have an effect all through the four divisions, making the bigger clubs bigger, while the smaller clubs will find it hard to survive. The likes of Leeds United, Portsmouth and Wolves could go generations before recovering and returning to the top flight. Some would say they have more chance of going bankrupt than they have of playing in the Premier league again. Newcastle United dodged a bullet the size of a torpedo this season, and I would like to think Pardew and co have learned lessons.
