Newcastle Transfers: 10 Big Deals Linked For January Already

1. Luc Castaignos

Linked By: The Chronicle January will be a big month for Newcastle, especially in terms of their attempts to sign a striker: the club apparently (by their own admission) had other attacking options lined up and assessed but couldn't get anything "over the line", and they are already pushing to get that business done early. With Papiss Cisse possibly going to the African Nations, that is particularly key, and the Chronicle say Twente striker Castaignos is under scrutiny. He's been a target for some time - back when he was at Inter Milan - and though his time in Italy didn't go well, he has scored 32 in 74 for Twente, where he signed, ironically, as Luuk De Jong's replacement. He's big at 6'2 and he's been likened to Thierry Henry, which is never a bad thing. Chances? He will likely cost more than the ‚6m Twente paid for him, which might make him less likely than some of the other striking options, but he has been scouted and there is certainly some level of interest there. It's just whether Newcastle will be willing to test another Dutch striker after De Jong's abject failure. Which of these players would you most like Newcastle to pursue in January?
