Newcastle Transfers: 10 French Bargains Pardew Should Target In January

7. Clement Chantome

Club: PSG If PSG are serious about their desire to buy Paul Pogba this summer, there's a distinct chance that they will have to trim their midfield options. Yohan Cabaye might be moved on (he won't come back to Newcastle, don't even think it), Adrien Rabiot is also at the end of his contract (more on him soon) and one of the starting trio of midfielders will probably find themselves on the way out. Chantome is another who will leave PSG sooner rather than later as his contract runs out this summer. Inevitably, Arsenal have been interested in the past, and while he might look unkindly on moving to club with as many centre-midfielders as Newcastle, he would offer something different to both Colback and Tiote, with Anita seemingly unfancied. Likelihood Well, PSG clearly owe us a favour for taking Yohan Cabaye for so cheap - though presumably they don't quite see it that way after he's been mostly a bench-warmer - so that might work in Newcastle's favour. So too might the presence of Cabaye, who has happily trumpeted about how good the club are to play for (especially if you're looking for a stepping stone...) He's a motivated player in terms of wanting to leave, and that usually ticks boxes for Newcastle, and at 27 he's still an investment if the cost is zero or a couple of million to get him in January.
