The Local Lad was once touted as a future Newcastle captain and England international but Steven Taylor has never quite capitalised on his early promise. The Toon defence is in need of stability, and fans can expect one player in and one player to move on to accommodate that - Taylor is currently fourth choice and will likely be the one. There's not much between Steven Taylor and current preferred choice Mike Williamson - really it is the inches of height that big Mike has over the Geordie. Neither are world beaters but both are capable of doing a good job. Taylor is too young to not play and won't want to waste away playing only in cup games and when others are injured. Once upon a time the Steven Taylor's of this world were the archetypal Newcastle players. A player who understands the fans and the clubs expectations and who would do anything to help the club push forward. But times have changed and as the fans learn to focus on the positives so must the team evolve into a stronger unit. Stevie T will do a great job elsewhere, and hopefully rediscover the ability that showed such early promise.
