Newcastle United's Worst-Ever Premier League XI

13. SUB 2 - Claudio Cacapa

Newcastle United: 2007-09 Nationality: Brazilian

Position: Centre-Back

Cost: Free Transfer (Signed from Lyon)

Premier League Appearances: 29

Premier League Goals: 2

Capped three times by Brazil and a six-time Ligue 1 winner with Lyon, Cacapa arrived on Tyneside on a free transfer in August 2007 to much fanfare. Captain of the French club for five of those title victories, Cacapa was a brilliant centre-back in his day - but unfortunately his previous powers had largely deserted him by the time he signed for Newcastle.

Severely lacking in pace, Sam Allardyce's signing became a source of fans' frustrations - and he was even substituted after just 18 minutes in a game against Portsmouth. It was deeply depressing to see a player who, at his best, was one of the most-talented centre-backs in France reduced to such poor performances.
