Liverpool impatiently gained a head start by unveiling the coming season's kit before the last one even ended, donning the new garb as they dispatched already-relegated Middlesbrough to qualify for the Champions League. No doubt some fans are bored of it already.

2017/18's strip - modeled here by a ridiculously hairy Jordan Henderson - is a darker shade of red than usual, inexplicably described by New Balance's marketing bluster as "Shankly Red". The legendary Liverpool manager's team never wore a sanguine-coloured shirt, the red of the '60s being barely distinguishable from modern 'Pool. Perhaps it's the colour he turned when embarrassed, or that of his favourite vintage?

Up close, the material looks like suede, which can't be comfortable, but that doesn't detract from its classiness. Red phwoar.

He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
