Premier League: 6 Summer Signings That Are Failing

6. Jozy Altidore - Sunderland

Under former Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio, the Black Cats procured Jozy Altidore's signature for around £8.5 million this summer, but he's so far failed to live up to his billing. After a season to forget as a youngster when he joined Hull City on a season-long loan deal in 2009, Altidore had a lot to prove in the Premier League on his return. However, the 23-year old has so far failed to ripple the net in a league game for the North-East side - his only goal coming in the Capital One Cup. Sunderland are rooted to the bottom of the table, and it's a lack of goals which has been highlighted as one of the side's many problems showcased this season. As if it couldn't have gotten any worse for the league strugglers. Altidore was certainly a gamble with Sunderland paying a hefty transfer fee for a player with a bad track record in the EPL, and his ongoing goal drought will only worsen his chances of making the USA's 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup next summer.
