Ranking Every Super Bowl Of The 2010s, From Worst To Best
4. Super Bowl XLVI (2012) New York Giants 21-17 New England Patriots
Four years after famously toppling the Patriots’ bid for a legendary unbeaten season, the New York Giants pulled off the unthinkable. They beat a wary and vengeful Tom Brady and Bill Belichick on the grandest stage of all yet again.
In doing so, they proved that the first Super Bowl matchup in the 2007 season was no fluke. There was no chance of the Patriots taking New York lightly this time - not after they spoiled New England’s chance at being the only team ever to finish a season 19-0.
To be sure, the Patriots weren’t nearly as strong heading into this game as they were four years prior, merely a 13-3 team as opposed to unbeaten. But they were facing a Giants team that entered the postseason with a 9-7 record, appearing highly vulnerable.
Yet playoff Eli Manning is like few others, and the Giants QB sealed a magical performance with a wondrous fourth quarter pass to Mario Manningham, setting New York up to score the go ahead touchdown in the final minute, courtesy of Ahmad Bradshaw.
Although Bradshaw had remarkably attempted and failed to stall his winning run, so as to continue draining the game clock, Tom Brady couldn’t make the most of the remaining time. And so, even with 18-1 marking the Patriots’ brow like a scarlet letter of motivating shame, Giants’ coach Tom Coughlin’s gameplan brought down Goliath once again - there would be no revenge here.
