Spurs: 10 Players You Didn't Know Tottenham Almost Signed

5. Luis Fabiano

In 2010, when Spurs had just finished fourth in the Premier League and were preparing to embark on their first season in the Champions League, then-boss Harry Redknapp was looking to add some quality to his forward line - and he was looking to Brazilian international Luis Fabiano, who was playing for Sevilla in Spain at the time (he now plays for Sao Paulo back in his native country). However, Luis Fabiano initially completely dismissed the idea, claiming that Sevilla were actually a bigger team than Spurs, and was hoping to hold out until either AC Milan or Manchester United - his dream teams - potentially made a movie to acquire his services. When neither of those two elite clubs came knocking, the striker soon changed his tune and said that he would consider a move to Spurs. He said of Spurs that €œI must admit, it€™s only in the last few weeks I have understood just how big Spurs€™ ambition is€. Talks took place between the two parties and nothing materialised but, given that Spurs were genuinely interested and Luis Fabiano was receptive, the signing came remarkably close.
