4. Raul
PETER MORRISON/AP/Press Association ImagesSpain legend and Real Madrids all-time leading goal-scorer, Raul (full name Raul Gonzales Blanco),
might just have signed for Spurs if Juande Ramos hadn't been sacked by the White Hart Lane club in 2008. From the mouth of Raul himself, after the move had fallen through, the prolific striker said "four months ago, Juande and I had a meal with Gines Carvajal, who is our agent and a friend of mine. They called me because I like English football and I wanted Juande to tell me about his experience of Tottenham and of The Premier League. He is a football man and speaking with him is a pleasure. A chain of events meant that he was sacked and then Madrid were interested in him. The fact that we share the same agent led to unfortunate interpretations. Juande is a winning coach and he has proved that he is good enough to manage Real Madrid. The same summer, Raul continued to be linked with Spurs, despite the fact that Harry Redknapp was in charge. However, Redknapp said the move was impossible on financial grounds (meaning Raul's wages were probably well outside Tottenham's extremely strict structure). He went on to sign for Schalke 04 in the German Bundesliga in 2010 before ending his career with Al Sadd in Quatar, moving there in 2012 before retiring in 2014.
