Spurs Transfers: 5 Centre Backs To Replace Jan Vertonghen

1. Ezequiel Garay

The final entry on this list - and another player with whom Spurs have already been linked - is Ezequiel Garay. If Spurs were to make a move for Benfica's 27 year old Argentinian centre back, they would apparently face stiff competition from fellow Premier League side Manchester United - the bonus for the Lilywhites being that Manchester United are no longer considered to definitely be better than Spurs so, unlike a few years ago, the player would have a genuinely tough decision to make if both clubs were in for him. Garay impressed enormously over the two legs in which Benfica defeated Spurs in this season's Europa League and that has been the main catalyst in the White Hart Lane team's interest in him. With 18 Argentina caps to his name and a wealth of European experience with the likes of his current club and Real Madrid, Garay would be a spectacular signing for Spurs, but he wouldn't come cheap. So there you have it - five centre backs to replace Jan Vertonghen at White Hart Lane. Do you agree? Which other central defenders should Spurs be looking at if their current star stopper leaves the club? Let us know in the comments box below. And please feel free to follow me on Twitter!
