We now return to Gareth Bale, the subject of much speculation this summer and the centrepiece of one of the more enduring transfer rumours in recent years. The 24-year-old continues to be linked with a
£100 million move to Real Madrid. Quite whether Spurs should accept such a bid for their prized asset is open for debate, but that kind of money would be difficult for any club to turn down. Spurs could quite easily furnish themselves a brand new team with £100 million, or it could be used to offset the £50 million+ already spent by Villas-Boas this summer. Whichever way you look at it, this represents a pretty good deal for Tottenham. And Bale's departure to the Spanish capital looks like an inevitability - whether it happens this summer or next, it's going to happen. Real are a team who always get what they want - just as they did when Spurs chairman Daniel Levy told them Luka Modric wasn't for sale last summer, and when Manchester United told them Cristiano Ronaldo wasn't for sale in 2009. It's just something Spurs are going to have to face up to.
