Spurs Transfers: 5 Reasons They Must Add A New Striker In January

5. Worst Overall Attack In The Top Eight

I think a prime reason why Sherwood€™s team need to look to add to their attacking options is due to their poor overall goal return this season; his team has scored only 29 goals from the 22 league that they have played this season. All of the other seven sides in the top eight have managed to score more, and Southampton in ninth place also have managed to do better. The numbers get even worse for Spurs if we dissect further and look at the number of goals that have come from open play; only 14 of the 29 have arrived in this method. That means that the team have only the 13th best record in the league in terms of scoring goals from open play. As a means of comparison, Manchester City top the open play scoring league with 41 scored this season. Obviously, set piece goals are not routinely scored by strikers, so these statistics paint a pretty clear picture about the need to add a further striker. There are certainly some very scary attacking numbers in the league this season with Liverpool and Man City being the obvious examples, and Spurs must find a way to compete with them.
