Spurs Transfers: 5 Reasons They Must Add A New Striker In January

4. Spurs Haven€™t Managed To Replace The Goals Gareth Bale Scored Last Season

I think that most of us would agree that Gareth Bale€™s summer move to Real Madrid was the biggest deal of the summer transfer window, but you can€™t say that Spurs didn€™t get fair compensation in the £85.3m deal. That money that they received was reinvested in the team with a host of new players signed. The theory was to replace Bale in the aggregate, meaning that they would replace his goals through a string of new players, rather than trying to find a like for like replacement. The theory seemed sound enough, but in practice it hasn€™t really worked. Anyone that watched Spurs last season on a regular basis will know that Bale often carried the team, and they have certainly missed that influence this season. Last season, the Welsh wizard was the third highest goalscorer in the Premier League with 21 goals scored; only Luis Suarez (23) and Robin van Persie (26) scored more. Bale made a fairly slow start to life in La Liga with the Spanish giants, but he now seems to be settled with eight goals scored and seven provided from the ten games that he has started. As Bale is still only 24, and also has an average rating of 7.66; it€™s clear that Spurs will be wondering what they could have had in their team this season.
