Spurs could use a new centre-back this summer considering Michael Dawson is touching 30 and William Gallas turns 36 in August. One option for Villas-Boas in this department is Toby Alderweireld, Ajax's impressive 24-year old centre-back who has
recently spoken of his ambitions to play in the Premier League. The Belgian international has been linked with moves to Portugal and even Russia but he said:
That is not my preference. England and Germany are the best leagues where I think I can take the next step."
Alderweireld could follow in the footsteps of fellow Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen in switching Ajax for Spurs and it is hoped he will be able to emulate fellow countrymen Vincent Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen in successfully plying his trade in the Premier League.
