Axel Witsel was one of the few Belgians in their starting line-up at this World Cup who doesn't yet ply their trade in the Premier League, but there's a good chance that this summer might see him join many of his international team-mates in the top level of English football and there would be few better places than Tottenham for him to settle.

He is currently playing at the heart of the midfield in the Russian Premier League for a Zenit Saint Petersburg team that achieved a 2nd place finish, only one point behind CSKA Moscow having moved to Russia from Benfica in 2012 for £32.5 million and while his current side would probably be loath to see him move, it is said that he has a release clause in his contract of £30 million.

He was one of the more impressive performers in Belgium€™s ultimately disappointing World Cup campaign as their €˜Golden Generation€™ were knocked out in the quarter finals stage to Lionel Messi€™s Argentina. For Belgium he showed his discipline sitting in front of the defence providing them protection and breaking up the play and was one of the major reasons why only two goals were conceded in open play during the tournament.
