Spurs Transfers: The Pros And Cons Of Signing David Villa

His Age

Villa David Villa is 31 years old. Not 'old' by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly on the decline in footballing terms. Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy is renowned for enforcing a strict transfer policy that involves bringing in young players in order to ensure that they have a sell-on value in the future. He's a sucker for an investment. This would not be the case with Villa. Signing for Spurs at the age of 31 would likely be the last move of his career and, even if it wasn't, his value certainly isn't going to increase at his age. Villa's value as an asset would come entirely from his goals and the success they could potentially bring in the short term - and in the subsequent income that would be generated with said success. Whether or not Mr. Levy would be prepared to budge from his usual policy is a question only he can answer.
