Stoke vs Man City: 5 Key Battles

4. Pieters v Navas

Jesus Navas and Erik Pieters will lock horns on Saturday in a battle of the wide men. We've all seen the quality of cross that Navas can produce, but Pieters' defensive capabilities aren't to be questioned either, at £3 million he was an absolute bargain for Mark Hughes' side. Jesus Navas has made an interesting start to his first season in English football. Whilst being heavily involved in Manchester City attacks and having created a lot of chances, Navas is yet to either assist or score for City so far this season. He'll be looking to change that however after scoring Spain's late equaliser in their friendly with Chile. Dutchman, Erik Pieters, isn't any old pushover though. The ex-PSV Eindhoven left-back is likely to tire Navas out during Saturday's game because he'll be constantly up and down the wings trying to support Matthew Etherington. This therefore means that Jesus Navas will either have to track back with him or leave Zabaleta exposed in a two-on-one situation. The pacey Navas will be likely to try and take the ball down the outside of Pieters, if he can force him inside on to his weaker foot he might be able to stifle Navas out of the game. It's always risky business forcing a player of such high quality inside though.
