Sunderland: 5 Reasons Why Vergini Will Win You Over This Season

2. He Has A Great Relationship With Poyet

Gus Poyet got his man last season on loan from Estudiantes and he came over to England as a real unknown quantity but the manager believed in him from the very beginning. Although his performance as a centre half against Arsenal can easily be forgotten as his errors lead to seeing Sunderland lose 4-1 at the Emirates. Gus Poyet must have spotted this immediately and moved him to right back where his displays improved dramatically and he helped Sunderland stay in the top flight. Poyet will be hoping Santiago Vergini continues to impress in the Sunderland defence and if his performances continue the Uruguayan manager will be hoping the loan deal can become a permanent move by the end of the season. Vergini said on his arrival: "The challenge for me is to become part of this team, and offer all I can so we have a good season. The feeling that I've had here at this club has been very good. It€™s a big club." Vergini - who travelled with Argentina to the World Cup in Brazil - has already completed his first challenge of becoming part of the team now he just needs to stay focused in order to have a great season and push on for more caps for his country.
