Sunderland's Greatest Ever Premier League XI

9. ATT - Niall Quinn

Player, captain, goalkeeper, manager, chairman, owner, ambassador, Sky Sports 'unbiased representative. Niall Quinn has done it all. Surely no other footballer can claim to have been that widely involved in a club, particularly a player who had no association to the city or team until just before his 30th birthday? The man opened an entire children's hospital wing in Sunderland and even paid £8,000 for a huge convoy of taxis to take 12 fans back to Sunderland from Bristol after they were ejected from a flight for singing his name when they spotted him. Quinn himself also left the plane to be with 'his people'. As far as Sunderland legends go, I'm going to stick my neck out and say he's the greatest man in Sunderland AFC's history. Oh, and as for his talent, he was one half of one of the greatest Premier League strike partnerships. Do I need to explain more?
