Tom Brady: 5 Possible Destinations & 5 Possible Replacements

7. Replacement: Alex Smith

Hey, remember him? This is an unlikely scenario, but I wouldn't put it past Belichick to surprise everyone with this move. Alex Smith suffered a horrific injury during week 11 of the 2018 season and it's very possible that was his last ever game. He reportedly has been rehabbing ever since with the idea of returning to the field though. Washington could opt to keep him as insurance or to continue as mentor for the young Dwayne Haskins.

He's awfully expensive to keep as a glorified assistant QB coach though. Here again, we could see Belichick swindle the Redskins into giving up Smith for cheap - they may even pay him! Just as the Houston Texans did to the Cleveland Browns in the Osweiler trade, this could be a win-win for both franchises. Washington frees up cap space to bring fresh talent in their re-building process and New England gets a 3x ProBowler. Smith had a winning record all five seasons in Kansas City, and let's not forget that he actually led a terrible Washington team to 6-4 and was leading the NFC East before he broke his leg.
