He is the man that Hatem Ben Arfa said he would model himself on, he is "twinkle toes", he's the best many have seen, he is Peter Beardsley. Yet another local lad to make waves near and far, "Pedro" is a hero to many across the country, from Tyneside to Merseyside. However, despite being born in Hexham, it wasn't until 1983, four years into a long and what would be come distinguished career, that he first played for Newcastle. In fact, rather bizarrely, he had two spells in Canada with Vancouver Whitecaps which sandwiched an appearance for Manchester United in 1982, after starting his career with Carlisle United. When he finally made it to St James' Park, the love affair began, spending four years along some past and future world class players, somehow in the second division of English football. He would go onto the likes of Liverpool and Everton before returning with in the 1990's to strike up a partnership with another future world class player Andy Cole. Thanks to 59 England caps, Beardsley is well respected by the nation, but it is in Newcastle that he is perhaps most fondly looked upon, currently occupying the Reserve team managers job at the club.
