UFC: Ranking George St. Pierre's 12 Title Fight Wins
8. GSP vs. Nick Diaz
Nick Diaz did everything he could to get, and then sell, this fight (although he also did everything he could to blow it by getting suspended, losing an interim title fight, and missing press duties). Sadly, when the fight actually happened, he just couldn't hang with the best in the game. To make a long story short: Nick Diaz called out GSP shortly after arriving in the UFC. He was granted a title shot against him, then had it revoked by missing press duties. He wound up fighting B.J. Penn, won, would have got GSP, but the champ was then injured. Diaz got Carlos Condit in an interim title fight, lost, and was suspended after testing positive for THC. Despite that, after Diaz was Diaz (read: mouthy) and disrespected GSP some more, the champion granted the Stockton fighter a title shot, regardless of the fact that Diaz was coming off a loss. Why? He told Dana White that Diaz was "the most disrespectful human being" he'd ever seen. He wanted to teach him a lesson. He did. While he didn't finish Diaz, he dominated him for five rounds. Diaz looked so badly outclassed you wondered if he was the same fighter that picked apart B.J. Penn a year and a half earlier. This March 2013 title fight was really a huge let-down in a sense, because despite all the trash talking, Diaz had nothing to offer the champ.
