Who Is In The North East's Worst Team Of The Season?
1. Jak Alnwick
Fans of Newcastle United would have been forgiven for thinking they had stumbled on the next Gordon Banks after Jak's heroics during the undefeated streak-beating win over Chelsea in December. The 21-year-old kept the champions elect at bay right until the final moments of the game after being hauled off the bench at half time following an injury to Rob Elliot. However, he would go on to prove over the following seven games that he was no where near good enough for The Premier League, and maybe even the Football League for that matter. Newcastle already had the most shaky of defences so to put a goalkeeper at an even more nervous disposition behind them was always going to end in tears. The very least you would expect from a 'professional' footballer would be for him to keep his kicks within the white lines on the floor, something he only achieved twice or thrice during his spell between the sticks. We have to cut the Geordie a bit of slack here as he was thrown into the most ferocious of lion's dens after just six senior first team games for Gateshead in the Conference three seasons earlier. But then again, there is little room for sentiment in football.
