Who Is In The North East's Worst Team Of The Season?
2. Santiago Vergini
First to feature for Sunderland is Santiago Vergini. He's the closest thing the Black Cats have had to Nyron Nosworthy since... Well, Nyron Nosworthy. He terrifies and delights the fans in equal measures. He's comfortable on the ball, which is a good attribute to have, but he's TOO comfortable on the ball, and at times looks like he's luring oncoming strikers into his path just so he can flick the ball past him. The Argentine has the most awkward running-style imaginable. It genuinely looks like he's running trying to balance a tray on his head, filling the fans with absolutely zero confidence when he does set out on a mazy, inevitably doomed run. In fairness, there were times when he put in good performances, but overall, he's not worth the risk. There's a good chance he won't be seen at the Stadium of Light again, though he'll always be remembered fondly by the Southampton fans who witnessed him smash an unbelievable volley past his own keeper during the 8-0 drubbing on the south coast.
