20 Things You Somehow Missed In Andor
16. Cassian's Proposed Backstory Details From Rogue One Were (Somewhat) Incorporated Into Andor
Rogue One had a lot of narrative ground to cover, given that it was introducing a whole set of characters to the franchise. Due to its many narrative-oriented obligations, it was not completely able to do justice to its characters and this could be seen in their trimmed-down backstories.
Cassian Andor was not spared from this, but unlike his fellow revolutionaries, parts of his story eventually saw the light of day in his eponymous spin-off. Star Diego Luna admitted in an interview with Collider that his ideas for his character's story developed during Rogue One's filming did not exactly translate to Andor's narrative in the way he initially expected.
However, he appreciated how Tony Gilroy was able to fit the likes of Maarva and Luthen into his character's journey in an emotionally satisfying manner.
