9 More Star Wars Subplots That Went Literally Nowhere

4. Chancellor Valorum's Vanishing Act

Finis Valorum (Terence Stamp) ultimately only appeared in a single Star Wars film, where he was removed from the post of Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic at the behest of a scheming Palpatine.

Beyond a subsequent appearance in a single episode of The Clone Wars, Valorum hasn't been heard from since, which given the major role he played in the shaping of the galaxy - whether intended or not - certainly seems like a peculiar omission.

It's been apocryphally suggested that George Lucas originally intended to bring Valorum back in some capacity for Attack of the Clones, but after Terence Stamp expressed disappointment with his role in The Phantom Menace, those plans were nixed.

And so, beyond Valorum's divisive legacy as a leader - many seeing him as weak - fans have been left to speculate on what became of him after being removed from office.

While it's not inconceivable to believe that Valorum simply... retired from public life and quietly lived out the rest of his days - as can be arguably deduced from his Clone Wars appearance - it'd certainly be nice to have confirmation.

Given that an issue of the decanonised comic Star Wars: Republic had Valorum be assassinated, for him to unceremoniously fade away in the official canon is underwhelming by comparison.
