Star Wars: 9 Secrets Of The Ghost Ship You Need To Know
1. The Real Reason It's Called The Ghost
General Hera Syndulla didn't just decide on the name of the Ghost because it sounded ridiculously badass.
That was simply a bonus.
This VCX-100 light freighter was given the title due to its ability to do one very specific and hugely valuable thing. According to the New Dawn novel, Hera chose the name Ghost because of the ship's talent of getting past Imperial sensors undetected - something that comes in handy on a number of occasions during Rebels in particular.
This Ghost had a hell of a lot of secret evasion tricks up her sleeves, with over 87 illegal upgrades being made to her stealth systems over the years.
Everything from the ship's energy dampeners, to its static jammers made it tough for the Empire to spot this Rebel transport. And the heavily modified Ghost also possessed the ability to mimic cosmic radiation or solar fluctuations on the sensors of most vessels, according to the likes of the Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know and The Rebellion Begins books.
So, not only was she fast, this beloved freighter was bloody hard to catch.
