8. Onaya

Onaya was a vampire, of sorts. She traveled the galaxy feeding from her only source of true nourishment - art. More specifically, Onaya helped inspire countless artists to create some of their greatest works, though the process was often fatal.

Though difficult to confirm, she claimed to have inspired such great artists as John Keats, who lived on Earth in the 18th Century, and Catullus, who was around a lot earlier than that - two thousand years, give or take a century.

It is entirely plausible that Onaya does not experience the flow of time like mortals, as surely the years spent searching for her next meal could have been excruciating. Instead, she seems, perhaps ironically, peaceful and content as anyone could be, helping Jake to burn himself through the writing of Anslem.

She is forced away from him by Captain Sisko, but there exists a great question: just how far would most artists be willing to go, to ensure the longevity of their work? Is Onaya really an evil creature, if her help resulted in some of the greatest works of all time?
