10 Star Trek Characters Who Died Off-Screen
1. Spock
Probably the only one on the list who actually died on-screen, returned, and then died off screen.
Spock's iconic demise in 1982's The Wrath of Khan was mirrored by Kirk's own death in 2012's Star Trek Into Darkness but the focus here is the third of the Kelvin Timelines series, Beyond.
Arriving at Starbase Yorktown, Zachary Quinto's Spock is approached by two robed Vulcans who inform him that Ambassador (Prime) Spock has passed. While this is a brilliant, deserved nod to the real life death of Star Trek veteran Leonard Nimoy, Spock has been "dead before" to quote The Undiscovered Country . There's no depiction of the event and while Vulcans don't lie, they do make errors or omissions, so this could well be an open book. After all, Spock is Patient Zero when it comes to returning from the beyond.
They literally made a film about it.
Spock Prime's on-screen passing could not be realised due to real world events. In a way, this is a shame, not to be ghoulish about the fact, but the franchise has handled death well time and time again. In any case, his appearances in both the 2009 reboot and Into Darkness secured the link between universes, providing a fitting epitaph for the most famous Vulcan - in any timeline.
