10 Star Trek Characters Who Died Off-Screen
6. Marla McGivers
The loss of your wife, much of your crew and being marooned for 15 years at the centre of a dead planet are never going to be good for the soul.
The story of Khan Noonien Singh is well told in the annals of Star Trek lore but it is sometimes forgotten that the 20th Century's engineered superman took a member of the Enterprise's crew with him to Ceti Alpha V.
Lt Marla McGivers was swayed by Khan to join Team Botany Bay with such wonderful requests as to "Sit and entertain me". However as The Wrath of Khan would reveal, McGivers would not long survive her new love affair.
She was among the 15 people killed by the Ceti eels, and thus would not appear in the movie sequel. Her fate would later be told through the graphic novel series recounting the experiences of the genetically engineered group's exile.
Actress Madlyn Rhue was confined to a wheelchair by 1982, suffering from multiple sclerosis, and was thus unable to appear. Sadly, she would receive no more mention than Khan exclaiming 'my beloved wife'.
Still, fans of Space Speed knew it was Marla, so she was remembered all the same.
