9 Ups & 2 Downs From Star Trek: Resurgence
9. Down: I Can See Your Lips Moving
Where it does fall apart a little for Resurgence is in its core production. The story and the characters contained within are excellent and true to Star Trek's valiant history, however, visually, it occasionally looks more early 2000's PlayStation than cutting edge next generation.
From the start there are echoing and duplicated lines spoken. Speech cuts out on occasion halfway through a sentence and disappointingly the lips and the words don't seem to align. Pausing the game can cause some of these glitches to become more evident and the graphic quality does differ even between narrative scenes, leading to a slightly uneven balance throughout.
Resurgence might not be a AAA game but it's not quite where fans might expect it to be on release. Walking can even be a challenge at points with the motions of the characters appearing less than fluid and at times verging on stilted. Distractingly, whenever characters are talking there's the chance players will be able to see into the back of their heads which doesn't really engage an immersive experience.
Trying to perform some of the simpler actions can be a strain if you want to pick up an engineering tool. Players can find themselves pushing their analog sticks to the limit to grab at a console control at slow speed but then in another instant have absolute precision when it comes to firing a phaser.
