Star Trek: 10 Secrets About The USS Enterprise-G You Need To Know

What an illustrious heritage the USS Enterprise G has already and the decals are barely dry on the hull.

By pure technical technicality, the latest in the alphabetically honoured starship line has managed to be captained by three different individuals although it's not the record.

Riker oversaw the original Titan with Captain Liam "No" Shaw snuggling into the captain's chair for its final five years and the vessel's refit.

That refit ended up being more severe as fans know, translating the design into its Neo Constitution Class form with Shaw remaining in command throughout. Riker would once again take up command, albeit temporarily, during the incident against the Shrike with Shaw returning to the post thereafter. As viewers will have seen, ultimately the first "proper" captain of the G as named would be one Seven of Nine (#legacymakeitso).

That's actually not the record for number of commanders, although over the course of two years that's still quite a shuffle. The original Enterprise would rotate five captains; April, Pike, Kirk, Decker, and Spock, and the G equals the (canon) captaincy lineage of the D. That was commanded by Picard (twice), Riker, and Shaw's spirit animal Jellico during its lifetime - although that was always under the "D" legend.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
