Star Trek: 10 Top Secret Artefacts At Daystrom Station

4. Thaelaron Generator

A weapon almost as powerful as the legendary Genesis Device, this indicates that Daystrom Station is the ultimate location for research and development. The distinction between the two however is that while the Genesis Device was perverted into a device for destruction, the Thaelaron generator was always intended as the threat to end all threats.

A key component of Shinzon's Scimitar in Star Trek Nemesis, the Thaelaron generator could turn biological life to dust and threatened to obliterate the Enterprise in the Battle of the Bassen Rift. Admittedly its activation process is just as longwinded as that of the Genesis Device but the results don't eradicate everything, instead leaving technology alone and eliminating the biological.

It also has the unenviable honour of being responsible for the death of one Lieutenant Commander Data whose memory also resides elsewhere aboard the clandestine station. Another nod for fans is that this means Daystrom houses at least two super weapons which have been in some way linked to the deaths of major franchise characters.

While the graphic for the generator is seen, there's no indication of the size of this piece of technology so it could be the portable version which is seen in the opening minutes at the Romulan Senate, or even the full version installed on Shinzon's flagship.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
