Star Trek: Every Bridge Ranked Worst To Best
5. The Original - USS Enterprise (NCC-1701)
Let's be honest--the TOS bridge is absolutely iconic with its bright orange panels, jellybean buttons and moving screens. It is interesting, busy, and yet easy to look at. Of, course, it had to be, as so much of the TOS action took place on the bridge set due to the afore-mentioned budgetary restraints.
But whilst we are being honest, the TOS bridge set is also a product of it's time and doesn't really look that futuristic over half a century later. That doesn't mean it is bad--in fact it's one of the its most endearing qualities. When you see it, you know that it is the USS Enterprise--not the A, B, C or... well, you get the idea.
When it was constructed for The Cage, there was a little less colour in the decor. This made sense, as not many people had access to a colour television set and so there wasn't a real need to be that dynamic. The technology did change over time, but in order to give viewers something more to enjoy, the general aesthetic was brightened up a bit. The knock-on effect was that, whilst it was indeed a little more varied for those who had more expensive TV's, those who still had black & white pictures had more definition.
Of course, somehow the general colouring of all things space-related became white and blue--somewhat aging the 1960's technicolour aesthetic a bit. But the layout, spacing, setting and feel are still so apparent, that it inspires similar setting even today.
