1 Reason Why Evil Morty Isn't Rick's Original Morty (And 5 Why He Is)

In Rick Potion #9, when Rick helps Morty by giving him a serum so that anybody he gives it to outside of his family will fall in love with him, he kicks off a chain of events that leads to Rick being unable to fix the mess he has created.

So, he finds a new reality where he fixed everything but died with Morty in an unrelated explosion, and the duo go there and assume the places of that universe's Rick and Morty. When he does, this Rick tells Morty that they can only do this a couple more times.

This raises the question of Rick's knowledge that he can do this in the first place. The show's premise is that Rick just showed up after 20 years away and moved in with Beth and the family. So, what if Rick C137 isn't Rick C137? What if this Rick just dimension-hopped to get away from another mess that he caused? And why hasn't he brought his Morty with him, in that case?

Well, if that Morty was the Evil Morty, who had gone beyond Rick's control and begun being a problem for Rick - a problem so big that Rick was forced to flee - that would fit in very nicely in the Evil Morty is Rick's original Morty theory. He knows that they can dimension hop because he has already done it.
