1 Up & 5 Downs From Doctor Who Series 12 - Orphan 55

4. Exposition Monologues Are Back

The Doctor Orphan 55

A trope we thought might have been left in Series 11 was back with a vengeance. The Doctor's ongoing monologue about what to do in a scenario like this instead of actually doing it was one of the most infuriating recurring themes in the writing of the previous series, and it looks to be that Ed Hime didn't get the memo about simply not doing it any more.

From the bomb-proof linen cupboard to on-board the truck, and from underground tunnels to back in the TARDIS, any moment The Doctor got to explain the context of the planet they're on, the creatures they face, or what she's going to do next, she takes it. So much of the episode is spent nattering about the morality of building a holiday park in an incredibly dangerous place rather than fueling an adrenaline fire started by being chased across a dead expanse by horrific creatures. You could've turned the video off and borderline audio-booked this episode.

Also the go-to for Doctor Who, and could tell you why Sans Serif fonts are better than most. Still occasionally tap dances under the desk.
