10 4th Wall Breaking TV Show Moments Everyone Hated
5. The Cast Calls Out The Olsen Twins (Twice) - Fuller House
In 2016, Netflix launched Fuller House, their sequel to the original 1980s/90s sitcom Full House.
Though the majority of the main cast returned in some capacity, the major holdouts were Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who shared the role of Michelle Tanner in their youth and apparently had no interest in reprising the part.
And just four minutes into Fuller House's first episode, the writers couldn't help but make a crack about Michelle's conspicuous absence.
When Danny (Bob Saget) is asked where his daughter is, he remarks that she's "busy in New York running her fashion empire."
A pretty harmless nod to the Olsens' real-life pivot to fashion design, then? Except, the gag is followed up by a corny shot where every cast member in the scene collectively stares directly into the camera with a knowing look that says, "Why the hell aren't you here?"
Not content to leave it at a single gag, though, it happens again in the season two episode "Fuller Thanksgiving," where Michelle's absence is acknowledged at Thanksgiving before Jesse (John Stamos) leans back, stares into the camera, and says, "Come, it'll be fun."
Given that the Olsens have made it abundantly clear they have no desire to return to the show, these very public attempts to convince/pressure them come off as desperate at best, and mean at worst.
