10 Actors Who Turned Down The Decade's Biggest TV Shows

10. Jennifer Love Hewitt - Robin Scherbatsky (How I Met Your Mother)

In a Reddit AMA earlier this year, How I Met Your Mother co-creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays were asked which well-known actress was originally touted to play Robin Scherbatsky, the plucky Canadian newscaster eventually played by Cobie Smulders. The duo replied with, "Jennifer Love Hewitt did The Ghost Whisperer instead of HIMYM!", and though Ghost Whisperer ended up running for five seasons before its cancellation, one has to wonder whether Hewitt regrets not taking the Robin part, considering the show's absurd popularity and the fact it ran for more than 200 episodes split over 9 seasons. Would It Have Worked? We can't help but think that Hewitt would have simply been too well known for the part, for though Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan were also famous before the show began, they were pretty much just playing variations on their best-known movie characters anyway. It's hard to imagine Hewitt having the down-to-Earth appeal of Smulders' Robin, and we're just not that fussed about her acting abilities either...
