American Horror Story is jam-packed with staggering feats of transformation through impressively comprehensive makeup effects, though none proves more immediately impressive than that of Naomi Grossman.

Grossman portrays Pepper, a childlike yet murderous woman who suffers from microcephaly, resulting in her having a smaller-than-normal head. Grossman, who has no such affliction herself, was put through an intensive process to become Pepper, starting with shaving her head bald.

From there, Grossman had prosthetics applied to her face to make her ears and nose appear larger, therefore giving the impression that her head was smaller than it actually is.

In addition to this, she was fitted with false dentures, a contact lens for one eye, false hairy arms, and a tuft of hair on the back of her shaved head.

According to Grossman the process took between two-and-a-half and three hours per day, yet the end result is clearly well worth sitting still for that long.

Grossman may not be as well known as most of the actors on this list, but that doesn't make the transformation any less astonishing.
